English Final v1.1
These are the basic operating guidelines for Yes! Oppa Crew spending a Hangout with a Guest.
The goal isn't to pile up rules — it's for every Crew member to understand how Yes! Oppa works, so that every Guest gets a consistent experience.
1. Yes! Oppa and your role as Crew
Yes! Oppa is a Local Hangout / Social Experience service where travelers visiting Korea spend time with a local Crew member.
What a Guest is really choosing at Yes! Oppa is not a fixed sightseeing route or travel schedule — it's the time they spend with the Crew member they picked.
Your role is not to lead the Guest along a fixed sightseeing route.
Leading a fixed sightseeing route, or giving expert commentary on the history and culture of the places you visit, is not your main role.
Your role is to talk with the Guest, walk around, eat, visit cafés, go shopping, take photos — to spend time together naturally.
What matters most is that when the Hangout ends, the Guest feels,
“I had a great time in Korea with a local friend.”
You don't need to know everything
You don't need to know every attraction, food, custom, or piece of history in Korea.
If you don't know the exact answer to a Guest's question, you don't have to force an explanation.
“I'm not sure about that one either — want to look it up together?”
is a perfectly natural way to respond.
What matters for Crew is not delivering a lot of knowledge — it's making sure you and the Guest have a good time together.
A Hangout is built together
You do not write or design a separate sightseeing route or travel schedule for the Guest.
What you actually do and where you go during the Hangout is decided as you talk with the Guest.
It's good to naturally suggest cafés, restaurants, shopping spots, neighborhoods, or activities you like from your own experience.
For example:
“There's a café nearby I really like — want to try it?”
“We can look around here a bit longer, or move on somewhere else. Which sounds better?”
Make decisions together through conversations like these.
On the other hand, you don't need to create a detailed sightseeing route based on the Guest's preferences, hand it to them, or lead the Hangout according to a route you decided in advance.
What matters is the feeling of moving together with the Guest, rather than leading them.
How a Hangout basically works
GOOD
Guest + Crew → talk → share ideas → decide together → Hangout
AVOID
Crew → builds a sightseeing route → hands over a fixed route → leads the Guest along it
2. Getting ready before the Hangout
You don't plan it, but you don't show up unprepared either
Before the Hangout, check the Guest's booking details and requests.
At minimum, check the following.
- Guest's name
- Nationality
- Language
- Hangout date and time
- Duration
- Meeting spot
- Interests and requests
- Any notes shared separately
If the Guest has mentioned an area or activity they're interested in, it helps to have a few relevant places or activities in mind.
For example, if the Guest said they want cafés and shopping in Seongsu, having 2–3 cafés or shops you know or like in mind is enough.
Suggesting places or activities from your own experience is fine.
That said, you do not design the Guest's overall trip or work out the best sightseeing route for them, and you do not create a detailed schedule or sightseeing route for the Guest to follow.
You don't plan it, but you don't show up unprepared either.
Travel bookings and purchases
Suggesting a place or activity and booking or buying on the Guest's behalf are different things.
Accommodation, flights, rental cars, transportation, admission tickets to attractions, show tickets, paid experiences — as a rule, Guests make travel-related bookings and purchases themselves.
You don't need to book or buy these products on the Guest's behalf.
If a Guest asks for help with something like this and you're not sure how to respond, let HQ know.
3. WhatsApp Group Chat
Yes! Oppa uses a WhatsApp Group Chat with the Guest, the Crew, and HQ as its official communication channel.
Please keep communication about the Hangout and the booking in the Group Chat.
Say hello first
Once HQ introduces you in the Group Chat, say hello to the Guest first.
Don't wait for the Guest to speak first.
It doesn't need to be long.
A short self-introduction, along with letting them know you're glad to meet them and looking forward to the Hangout, is enough.
A Guest's first impression doesn't start when you meet in person — it starts in the Group Chat.
Booking changes
If something important about the booking needs to change — date, time, meeting spot, duration — confirm it with HQ through the Group Chat.
Even if you and the Guest have agreed between yourselves, don't finalize booking changes privately.
Booking changes are final only after HQ confirms them.
4. Meeting the Guest for the first time
When you meet the Guest, just start the Hangout naturally.
You don't need to re-explain Yes! Oppa or how a Hangout works, and there's no set script.
Rather than rushing to figure out what to do first, it's fine to spend some time talking and getting comfortable with each other.
Even if you checked the Guest's requests in advance, what they feel like doing that day may be different.
“Anything you especially want to do today?”
“Hungry? Or shall we walk a bit first?”
Check naturally what the Guest wants to do right now.
You don't have to follow what you prepared exactly.
You might end up talking at a café longer than expected, or find somewhere interesting while walking and go in.
If the time you spend together is enjoyable, the Hangout is going well.
5. Costs during the Hangout
As a rule, the Guest covers the basic costs that naturally come up while you and the Guest spend time together.
For example, things you use together:
- Café drinks and refreshments
- Meals
- Transportation during the Hangout
- Admission fees for attractions and venues
- Shows and event tickets
- Experiences and other activity fees
If you need to pay in order to join the Guest at a place or participate in an activity during the Hangout, the Guest also covers your related cost.
If how a cost should be handled is unclear, check with HQ rather than deciding on your own.
Be considerate about the Guest's costs
As much as possible, don't steer the Guest toward expensive food or unnecessarily expensive places or activities.
Since the Guest is covering the costs, choose places and activities you can enjoy together within a reasonable range.
For restaurants or activities that cost a lot, check with the Guest first and decide together.
Naturally, it's fine if the Guest chooses a restaurant or activity they want themselves.
Costs unrelated to the Hangout — your own shopping or personal purchases — are yours to cover.
6. Getting around, and your own car
Public transportation or taxis are the standard way to get around during the Hangout.
Do not use your own car to provide a separate paid transport service to the Guest.
You must not charge or accept driving fees, fuel costs, or transport fees from the Guest in exchange for using your own car.
If you run into a situation about getting around that's hard to judge, check with HQ.
7. Drinking and physical boundaries
Drinking is allowed, but never to excess
Drinking with the Guest during the Hangout is allowed.
But you must never drink to excess, and you must pace yourself.
Even when drinking, stay in a state where you can judge the situation normally and control your own behavior.
Even in a friendly atmosphere, or if the Guest keeps offering you drinks, you are responsible for managing your own alcohol intake.
Enjoying a drink together is fine, but you must not drink enough to affect your judgment or behavior.
Respect each other's culture and boundaries
You and the Guest may have different cultures, lifestyles, and personal boundaries.
What feels natural by your own standards may feel uncomfortable to the other person, so respect each other's cultural differences and personal boundaries.
Avoid behavior that makes the other person uncomfortable or crosses their personal boundaries.
Physical contact between Crew and Guests is not allowed
Yes! Oppa Hangouts do not allow intentional physical contact between Crew and Guests.
This standard applies equally to both Crew and Guests, regardless of cultural difference or whether it's meant as a gesture of friendliness.
Even if the Guest initiates physical contact, decline and keep an appropriate distance.
You must not initiate physical contact with the Guest either.
This applies the same way when alcohol is involved.
If the Guest's behavior makes you uncomfortable, or physical contact happens repeatedly, you don't have to put up with it or go along with it.
8. Safety and problem situations
If you judge that your safety or the Guest's safety could be at risk, you don't have to force the Hangout to continue.
For example:
- The Guest is so drunk that a normal Hangout is difficult
- Repeated attempts at physical contact
- Abusive language, threatening or aggressive behavior
- Being asked to do something illegal, or to join in
- Any other situation where you judge that things are not safe
In situations like these, put safety first and let HQ know through the WhatsApp Group Chat.
If the situation is serious or there is immediate danger, move to a safe place and prioritize your safety rather than waiting for HQ to reply.
You do not need to keep a Hangout going while enduring a dangerous or seriously uncomfortable situation.
Even when something comes up and it's hard to judge how to respond, share the situation with HQ rather than trying to solve it alone.
If you're unsure, tell HQ. If you're in danger, move to a safe place and prioritize your safety.
9. Hangout Times and Late Arrivals
Give yourself enough travel time so you can meet the Guest at the agreed time.
There's no set rule about how many minutes early you should arrive.
If something unexpected means you'll be late, let the Guest and HQ know through the WhatsApp Group Chat as soon as you can.
If the Guest is late
Even if the Guest arrives later than the agreed time, the Hangout's end time is not extended.
For example, for a Hangout booked from 2 PM to 6 PM, if the Guest arrives at 2:30 PM the Hangout still ends at 6 PM.
You don't need to provide extra time to make up for the Guest being late.
If you are late
If the Hangout starts late for reasons on your side, the Hangout time the Guest booked must be honored.
If it's hard for you to extend the time yourself, don't decide on your own — let HQ know.
HQ will check the situation with the Guest and make the needed adjustments.
Time lost because the Guest was late is not added back.
Time lost because the Crew was late must be made up.
10. If the Guest doesn't show up
If the agreed time arrives and the Guest isn't there, contact them through the WhatsApp Group Chat.
If there's no reply and you can't reach them for 30 minutes or more, let HQ know.
Rather than ending the Hangout and leaving on your own, check the situation with HQ before deciding whether to end it.
Even if you reach the Guest afterwards and the Hangout starts, the originally booked end time does not change.
11. Photos
If there's a good moment or spot for a photo, offer naturally to take one for the Guest.
You don't need to wait for the Guest to ask first.
“Want me to take a photo here?”
is an easy way to offer.
If the Guest wants photos, help them out and enjoy it.
That said, if the Guest doesn't want photos taken, don't take them.
You're not expected to provide professional photography.
Helping the Guest naturally capture a good moment in Korea is plenty.
12. Ending the Hangout and extending time
A Hangout runs on the time the Guest booked.
As the end time approaches, wrap up the Hangout naturally.
If the Guest wants to extend the time
The Guest may want to extend the Hangout.
If the Guest asks to extend the Hangout, first let them know whether you're available.
If you both agree to extend, request the extension through HQ in the WhatsApp Group Chat.
Do not decide the additional cost yourself or accept payment privately.
HQ will provide the Guest with instructions for the additional time and payment. Once the extension is officially confirmed, you can continue the Hangout.
Until the extension is confirmed, the originally booked end time applies.
Extensions are not handled privately between Crew and Guest — they go through HQ.
13. Questions and getting help
If you're unsure how to judge a Guest's request or a situation during the Hangout, you don't have to decide everything on your own.
For anything about an ongoing Hangout or booking, let HQ know through the WhatsApp Group Chat.
Bookings, costs, time changes, problems with a Guest, or anything else that's hard to judge — check it with HQ.
The most important thing to remember
Your role is not to lead the Guest along a fixed sightseeing route.
You don't have to think you need to keep explaining things or show them a lot of places.
Rather than building a finished sightseeing route for the Guest, talk with them and decide together what you both want to do in the moment.
Suggest places you like, walk together, eat, talk, laugh, and help out naturally when it's needed.
Respect each other's culture and personal boundaries, and build a Hangout you can both be comfortable in.
Ask yourself this:
“If I were traveling in an unfamiliar country, would I want to spend time with someone like me?”
A Yes! Oppa Crew member is not someone who walks a Guest through a fixed sightseeing route —
you're someone who helps create a great time in Korea together with the Guest.
